Maine Nonprofits Invited to Strengthen Sector-Wide Workforce Data
The Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP)
has launched a Survey on Nonprofit Wages and Benefits in Northern New England, now open through May 22, 2026. This survey represents the only Maine-specific resource for data and insights into the nonprofit workforce and compensation trends. Conducted every other year in partnership with the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits and Common Good Vermont, the final report will include comparison data for Northern New England.
“Maine nonprofits play a vital role in our communities and economy, employing 1 in 6 Maine workers and contributing over $16 billion each year to the economy,” said Jennifer Hutchins, MANP Executive Director. “This survey equips nonprofits–and their corporate and philanthropic partners–with the necessary data to advocate for and adopt compensation practices that attract and retain the people who provide essential services across our state.”
The Nonprofit Wages and Benefits Report is widely used by executive directors, finance leaders, and HR professionals to benchmark compensation and benefits. Survey participation benefits include a free copy of the full report for MANP member organizations that complete the survey, and a 50% discount for non-member participants. The most recent report reached more than 1,000 organizations across Northern New England, with Maine’s free snapshot accessed over 4,000 times—demonstrating its value as a widely used sector resource.
In today’s labor market, access to timely, local data is critical. The data collected through this survey helps organizations strengthen hiring practices by building more competitive compensation strategies. It also enables nonprofits to ground decisions in Maine-specific data, as well as better understand local trends. The report often helps inform conversations about opportunities to improve fairness and equity across the sector, and also supports compliance efforts by providing credible benchmarking data for boards and leadership responsible for justifying compensation to the public and the IRS.
The survey and report are sponsored by ProSearch, UST Workforce Solutions and Skillcloud HCM Solutions. For more details about sponsoring this report, contact Diana at djagde@nonprofitmaine.org.
