Can nonprofits advocate? Yes! Can they lobby? Absolutely! Are there rules to follow? Of course!
This virtual training is for staff and board members of 501(c)(3) organizations who are new to advocacy and interested in exploring how to strengthen the communities they serve through public policy.

Anybody can be an advocate, so if you’ve been nervous about entering the advocacy sphere, this is the perfect opportunity to get grounded and equipped!
This is the second session in a two-part Advocacy Series. The first session, 2026 Elections: How Maine Nonprofits Can Take Action, will be held on September 16.

About the Presenter
Mary Alice Scott is the Director of Advocacy at Maine Association of Nonprofits, where she advocates on issues impacting the state's nonprofit sector, keeps organizations updated about current policy trends, and trains nonprofit staff to strengthen our democracy through civic engagement. She is also a graduate of Leadership Maine (Flagstaff Class) and MANP's Leadership Institute.
