Organization Overview
Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home (“Leach Home”) is a 90-unit mixed-income elderly congregate living facility in Brewer, Maine. It was developed under the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and MaineHousing (MSHA) rental loan programs, and is supported by the Mabel Tyrrell Trust, a private charitable trust, through a related charity, Friends of the Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home (“Friends”). The Leach Home is a private nonprofit Maine corporation, led by a Board of Directors (“Board”), with an annual budget of about $1.8 million. Of the Leach Home’s 90 apartments, seventy percent (63 units) are rented to seniors with limited income and resources under the Tax Credit program, and thirty percent (27 units) are rented to market rate tenants. All receive the same meals, housekeeping, and amenities. Brewer Housing Authority (“BHA”) provides some management support services.
