Maine’s Paid Family Medical Leave: Update and Listening Session

Wednesday, January 17, 2024
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM (EST)

Zoom

Event Details

In July, Governor Mills signed an historic budget that includes the creation of a paid family and medical leave program, making Maine the 13th state to establish one. Eligible workers in the private and public sector will have up to 12 weeks of paid time off available to them for family or medical reasons including illness, to care for a relative, or for the birth or adoption of a child.

The program will be funded via a payroll tax, split between most employers and employees. This tax will begin in 2025, and employees will be able to receive benefits starting in 2026. Until then, Maine’s Department of Labor is tasked with leading the implementation phase with the program.

On January 17th, join MANP to learn more about the program’s implementation, how to keep updated on the process of rulemaking, and when there will be additional opportunities to give feedback.

We'll be joined by Reginald Parson, Deputy Director, Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave Program, Maine Department of Labor.

For additional information about the paid family and medical leave program, visit the Maine Department of Labor’s webpage here.
