Employee Assistance Program
Caring for Maine's Nonprofit Workforce
As a nonprofit leader, you carry a lot — strategy, fundraising, community needs, and most importantly, your people. When staff are stretched thin, struggling personally, or facing burnout, it can feel like you're carrying it all alone. But you don’t have to.

What is the MANP EAP?
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a workplace-provided support service designed to help employees deal with personal or work-related problems that may affect their job performance, health, or overall wellbeing.
This free, confidential benefit is available 24/7 and is designed not only for individual staff and their adult household members, but also to support supervisors and managers who may be the first to identify issues, or need support themselves when an employee is struggling.
KGA's EAP connects your team to licensed counselors, coaches, and specialists who can help with everyday challenges like:
- Emotional and mental health (including short-term counseling and crisis support)
- Parenting or caregiving stress, from behavioral concerns to eldercare referrals
- Financial or legal issues, such as creating a will, managing debt, or understanding housing rights
- Improving nutrition, sleep, or managing substance misuse
- Career and workplace concerns, including burnout, job transitions, and conflict
- Grief and loss
- And more!
Whether someone is navigating a family crisis, feeling overwhelmed, or just needs help managing stress, support is only a phone call, text, or click away.
Supervisors are often the first to notice when someone’s struggling. KGA offers confidential consultations to support managers behind the scenes, so they're never handling tough situations alone. Supervisors have access to confidential consultations to help:
- Refer employees dealing with personal challenges
- Navigate difficult conversations or performance concerns
- Manage team conflict and workplace tensions
- Plan responses to critical incidents like a staff death or community trauma
- Address complex issues like substance misuse, return-to-work plans, or suicidal ideation
Beyond one-on-one support, the EAP includes a robust online resource hub with tools designed specifically for managers:
- Articles, templates, and assessments to grow your leadership skills
- An online training center with 15 self-paced courses for supervisors
Whether you’re unsure how to approach a concern, want help crafting a referral, or just need a sounding board — KGA is here for you.
