Event Details

This webinar is offered in partnership with Common Good Vermont.

So much of a nonprofit’s success rests on the skill of its leader. Hiring, supporting, and evaluating the Executive Director is a primary responsibility of the Board of Directors.

One strategy to support and retain the Executive Director is through an annual, thorough, well-planned, and transparent performance evaluation.  A strong evaluation process builds trust between the Board and the Executive Director creating consensus on priority activities, relevant data, leadership competencies, and areas for growth.

This interactive workshop will demystify the evaluation process, explaining timeframes, board roles, data collection approaches, and a framework for gathering and communicating the results.

The workshop will address:

  • The importance of conducting an Executive Director evaluation as a means to strengthen the Board/ED relationship and agency functioning
  • Describe the planning process for Executive Director evaluations
  • Identify sample evaluation components
  • Creating a motivational and impactful action plan based on the findings
  • Identify best practices in communicating the evaluation results

Ideally, attendees will be both Executive Directors and one or two Board members.
