About the Presenters

Denise Danyow is an experienced leader with not-for-profit expertise including 3 years as a consultant in the Client Accounting Services group at Gallagher Flynn and Co. and 11 years as Director of Finance and Operations at the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) in Burlington Vermont. At COTS, Denise’s responsibilities included oversight of all finance and operational functions of the organization, including risk management, compliance and related policies/procedures. She had the chief administrative role for the COTS Board of Trustees’ activities. Denise has served in various roles on the boards of Lund (Board Chair and Strategic Planning Chair) and The Charlotte Library (Board President, Treasurer). She is also experienced in fundraising and affordable housing development. Denise has degrees in Economics (Boston College) and MBA/Finance (Boston University).
Michael Shapiro has over 25 years of corporate finance and accounting experience, and supports clients in our full suite of accounting services ranging from day-to-day transactional functions to advisory engagements. He specializes in providing short and long-term outsourced Controller and CFO services for organizations of all sizes, collaborating with clients to maximize efficiencies and identify opportunities. Michael provides strategic, actionable insights to help organizations improve profitability and attain their growth goals. A seasoned leader and adept communicator, he is committed to providing focused solutions tailored to the unique needs of each of his clients.
Prior to joining GFC in 2022, Michael served as COO/CFO for the Stern Center for Language and Learning. His previous experience also includes positions as Controller for Revision Military and Director of Finance for EMG3, LLC. Michael holds a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Providence College.
