Organization Overview
Every year, Lake Stewards of Maine trains and certifies hundreds of community scientists that volunteer for hundreds of hours each year. Many have been involved for 10, 20, even 30 years — and some have remained active for over 40 years.
These volunteers collect over 85% of the annual water quality data for the State and survey lakes for aquatic invasive species, alerting state agencies to changes in lake ecology, unusual observations, and emerging threats. LSM volunteers benefit their local lakes and broader by playing key stewardship and leadership roles.
