Organization Overview
Since 1981, the AFB has been providing nutritious food for some of our most vulnerable citizens - children attending area schools, a growing immigrant population, unemployed parents, disabled veterans, isolated seniors & those struggling with homelessness, mental illness, or substance abuse issues.
Maine ranks 12th in the US with 13.6% of households considered food insecure. The # of ME children and senior citizens going hungry is alarming: 1-in-6 suffer from food insecurity. Since 2020, the AFB has expanded programming & partnerships, significantly increasing our intake and distribution - up 55% over the past three years. We now provide the equivalent of more than 55,000 meals every month to thousands of individuals.
