What would your nonprofit do with $5000?

by Mary Erin Casale

Through their Leaders & Luminaries Awards, Camden National Bank honors board members who have effectively used inspiration, creativity, and ingenuity in board governance. This year, through The Bank of Maine Foundation, they’ll present four awards totaling $20,000 to nonprofit board members who have made important contributions in their communities. The awards will be presented during our Fall Executive Leadership Forum: How Engaged Should An Engaged Board Be? on November 10th (registration now open!). Have you nominated a board member yet?

The selection committee carefully considers a number of criteria when selecting recipients. In 2015, one of the recipients was Catherine Powers, Chairwoman of the Bath Housing Authority.L&L Check

“Ms. Powers was selected as the 2015 Leaders & Luminaries grand prize recipient for her tireless work recruiting and hiring a new executive director, spearheading the creation of the new Community Aging in Place program, and helping Bath Housing fulfill its mission to provide safe, affordable and stable housing to area residents in need,” said Renee Smyth, chief marketing officer of Camden National Bank. “Ms. Powers’ long-term commitment to affordable housing and her creative contributions to Bath Housing Authority all stand as a testament to the importance of nonprofit leadership.”

Bath Housing is a mission-driven organization that works to enhance housing stability for seniors, those with disabilities, and families in the greater Bath, Maine area in order to have a safe, vibrant, just and prosperous community.

“This award came at a pivotal time for our organization,” said Powers. “It was an unbelievable and unexpected recognition of the hard work of the board. The additional funding has assisted us to further our mission of developing and operating housing that supports stability, self-sufficiency, self-respect and pride for residents. ”

Since 2011, Camden National Bank has awarded a total of $59,000 to top nonprofit board members through their Leader & Luminaries Awards. These grants assist Maine nonprofit organizations that make the communities we live in a better place to be. This year, it could be your organization!

Nominate someone by September 2nd who has made important contributions in your community through outstanding strategic leadership. Four winners will each be awarded $5,000 for their organizations!
