Two People Who Can Help Your Board Succeed

by Molly O'Connell

Program update 10/3/13: The Advanced Track will not be offered this fall, but will be offered again in the future. Registration is still open for those interested in the basic track. If you are interested in future offerings of the advanced content, please contact us at

We often hear from boards that they’d love some outside support to help them get re-focused, re-energized or re-organized, but their budget just doesn’t allow them to hire a consultant.

Maine nonprofit boards are in luck! Two governance experts will be sharing their knowledge and skills at MANP’s Board Boot Camp (October 23, Auburn). This is a cost-effective way for organizations to develop their boards.

Send a board member or two as ambassadors to brush up on basic best practices or dive deeper into more advanced approaches to strengthening their effectiveness.

Who are these experts?

Cathy FellenzCathy Fellenz, Basic Track Facilitator

  • Who is she? A life coach and leadership consultant with over 30 years experience in nonprofits. Having started as a counselor and served in senior management and executive director roles, Cathy now coaches individuals seeking change and consults with organizations in transition.
  • Why does Cathy recommend Board Boot Camp? “It is a great educational resource to complement ‘on the job training’ – the way most of us learn how to be effective Board members. In addition to the excellent materials that MANP has designed, participants learn a lot from Board members in other nonprofits. Spending one stimulating and interactive day in Boot Camp can save participants months, even years, of figuring out how to be successful in the critical role of nonprofit Board member.”

Tony ScucciTony Scucci, Advanced Track Facilitator

  • Who is he? An organizational and clinical consultant with more than 35 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He is also a senior governance associate with BoardSource. Tony has worked with a diverse range of nonprofit sub-sectors and organizations of all sizes.
  • Why does Tony recommend Board Boot Camp? “Effective governance is about making real differences in people’s lives and in their communities. Participants in these workshops walk away equipped to bring greater value to their respective boards and organizations, regardless of their current level of performance.”

Don’t Miss Out!

In the words of past participants:

  • “The information I have gotten will most highly serve our community in a bigger and greater way.”
  • “Very helpful – especially in encouraging new members – in approaching people to be on our board – and packets for new members with expectations. Best afternoon spent in a long time.”
  • “Overall very comprehensive, “hands-on” practical overview. Very helpful!!”
