Has your nonprofit's tax-exempt status been revoked?
June 13, 2011
On June 8, 2011, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released a list of more than 275,000 nonprofits that had their tax-exempt status revoked due to failure to file annual returns. 1,324 of those organizations are from Maine. While most of the nonprofits on this list are believed to be defunct, this automatic revocation may also affect many small, volunteer-led organizations that are still operating.
If you are affiliated with a nonprofit in Maine, please view this list.
If you find your nonprofit’s name or similar name on the list, please match the Tax ID number with that of your organization. If it is a match, visit the National Council of Nonprofit’s website to learn about your options; or contact me at (207) 871-1885 or by e-mail.
The link to the list of non-profits that have had their status removed, is not working.
Sorry about that. It has been fixed.
