Calling all young nonprofit professionals!

by Lydia Swann

Hi. My name is Lydia and I am a millennial. Yes, I am glued to my phone, used to live in my parents’ basement, and expect things to happen instantaneously. I also work at a nonprofit and am passionate about trying to make the world a better place.

As Training Program Manager at MANP I have coordinated and attended dozens of professional development trainings and events for nonprofit staff and boards around the state. After joining MANP it did not take long for me to realize how few of my peers were in the room and how greatly I wanted that to change.

A Peer Network

LogoThe desire to have a peer network is why I joined an amazing planning board and we founded Maine’s Young Nonprofit Professionals Network: YNPNmaine. Our mission is to provide a space for young professionals in the nonprofit sector to engage and connect through volunteer opportunities, professional development, and networking events.

Opportunities + Challenges

Being part of a mission-driven nonprofit is rewarding and empowering, but it can also feel draining and overwhelming. As a young professional working in a nonprofit, maybe you were asked to manage your organization’s Facebook page or online newsletter and want to be recognized for other skills as well. Maybe you want to learn more about fundraising or marketing to grow within your organization. Perhaps you’re feeling compassion burn-out from long hours and challenging work and want to talk to some of your peers who feel the same way.

The good news is, you are not alone. At YNPNmaine we want you to join us in talking about and finding solutions to these issues and more.

As young professionals in Maine, we need a space to learn, build skills, and make connections with our peers. There are challenges with being a young employee or volunteer at a nonprofit, but there are also amazing learning opportunities and successes that can come with it. At YNPNmaine, we want to hear it all!

Stay in the Know

I hope you want to learn more about YNPNmaine and will consider becoming a member. We’re still getting started, but we have some great events in the works. Stay in the know by liking us on Facebook and signing up for our newsletter.

I look forward to meeting you!
