A Message from MANP
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
We are sad and deeply affected by the murder of George Floyd and other incidents of racial injustice. We stand with our friends, colleagues and members of the Black community in the call for justice and change.
As stewards of the Common Good, nonprofit organizations have the responsibility to ensure that everyone has what they need to thrive. And, yet, recent events have illuminated, and exacerbated, the stark systemic inequities that have long existed in our society.
At MANP, we are ready to be an active partner in the necessary, long overdue change, and we are committed to doing the work it takes to build more diverse, inclusive and equitable communities. We will start, but not stop, by asking questions: As nonprofit leaders, what is our role in ensuring that all voices are heard and everyone is included in the Common Good? What does it mean to be an ally and to fulfill our country’s promise of liberty and justice for all? What can we do, not just say?
We invite you to look through articles on our website (see below) that are helping our team understand our role in perpetuating or dismantling inequity. In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in our work, recommit to listening and learning, and share our process and learning with you.
There is a lot of hard work ahead as we face the pain, anxiety and uncertainty prevalent throughout our state. Yet, there is also opportunity to do better—to “imagine another world” (Arundhati Roy).
Let’s use this moment to do better and be better for our Black neighbors, for all who are marginalized and the Common Good in our state.
