A Fond Farewell

This week we’re saying farewell to our Executive Director, Scott Schnapp. After 14 years of service to MANP and nonprofits across the state, he’s stepping down and heading off for new adventures. We’ve been using this experience to encourage thoughtful executive transitions  and help nonprofits navigate the enormous possibilities when faced with a leadership change.

A good beginning starts with a good ending, so we’ve also been celebrating! At the end of June, on a warm and muggy night in Freeport, hundreds of our friends and colleagues came out to toast Scott and thank him for his contributions. Now, he isn’t one to take himself too seriously, so we made sure the evening reflected that.

We had great music from Maine Academy of Modern Music instructors, a brief (really!) speaking program, tasty snacks and drinks, and there was even a FLASH MOB*! The host committee also thoughtfully honored Scott’s wife, Heidi, and thanked her for her support throughout the years.

DSC_3844We’re so grateful to our host committee for organizing the evening, our board members for their ongoing commitment to MANP, and especially to Scott, for being a friend and mentor to so many of us. We compiled memories and well-wishes that we shared with Scott at the celebration. Here a just a few:

“Scott – you are a gem, a man among men. Thank you for all your support, encouragement, wisdom and laughter”

“Thank you for all you’ve done and given to Maine non-profits – and Maine! You have set an example we can all strive to meet. If we succeed, this state will be unstoppable!”

“Thank you for your stewardship of our sector, and wishing you the best!”

*we promised there would be no photo evidence of the flash mob, so you’ll just have to use your imagination!
