Looking for a memorable Mother’s Day gift or activity? Turn to a Maine nonprofit!

Take Her Somewhere Beautiful

Pack a picnic and head out on a trail maintained by one of the amazing land trusts throughout Maine, head to your closest Audubon sanctuary, or stop and smell the flowers at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (free for moms on Sunday). These outdoor options are especially good if kids or grandchildren will be helping (sometimes “helping”) you celebrate.

Treat Her to Some Culture

Maine boasts a wide variety of museums and historical societies. Pick one you’ve never been to and discover it together, or revisit old favorites.

Give Her a Gift That Gives Twice

If your mom isn’t nearby, or you just can’t get together this weekend, find something unique at a gift shop of your local museum, historical society or nature center to send.  Memberships and tickets to concert or plays at one of Maine’s amazing theaters are never the wrong size. You’ll please your mom, support essential community organizations, and feel the glow of generosity (plus maybe get invited along), so actually these gifts give thrice!

Will a nonprofit be part of your Mother’s Day celebration, or does your nonprofit have a way for people to celebrate their moms? Share in the comments!
