Maine's Unemployment Tax

Maine nonprofit employers are liable for unemployment claims, unless they meet certain exemption requirements. The Maine Department of Labor’s website has forms, frequently asked questions, and an employer’s guide to unemployment laws. 501(c)(3) organizations are exclusively eligible to opt out of the state unemployment tax system, with a deadline to do so of November 30th each year. MANP partner Unemployment Services Trust (UST) provides a nonprofit-owned alternative.
