
The Junior League of Portland, Maine, inc. is a non-profit organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Portland
reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. The Junior League of Portland is 325 members strong. Our membership is comprised of financial consultants, real estate brokers, homemakers, public relations/marketing consultants, students, insurance agents, lawyers, architects and many others. Our organization works to affect change and improve the community through developing effective volunteer leadership. We identify a community need, inspire a shared solution to serve that need, collaborate with community partners, and provide trained, dedicated volunteers and sometimes financing to ensure the success and longevity of the program. We have done so for over 80 years

Our Community Projects: Helped create the Center for Grieving
Children, Kids First, The Children’s Museum, Children’s Theatre of Maine, Preble Street.
Our Most Recent Signature Project: Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) in collaboration with Community Counseling Center.TIP provides specially trained citizen volunteers who offer emotional and practical support to victims of traumatic events and their families in the first few hours following a tragedy. We have recently identified our new focus area which is hunger and food insecurity. Our hope is to develop a new signature project surrounding this focus are within the next few years.
