Robert N. Brown, Jr., CPA, CFE – Managing Partner of The CPA Solution, LLC

Bob Brown is the founding partner of The CPA Solution, LLC, a firm specializing in internal controls, fraud prevention and detection, forensic accounting and fractional CFO services. Based in Bangor, Maine, the firm provides services from coast to coast to a diverse client base that includes business, government and nonprofit entities. Bob is a former CFO and audit manager.  As a speaker and industry expert, he has been invited to address audiences at colleges, universities and professional groups on issues of accounting fraud.  He enjoys the challenges of providing custom accounting training for convention workshops and private organizations.  He has also published numerous articles in his field. Bob is a member in good standing of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants and The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Tracy Cassidy, CPA, Tracy Cassidy CPA SC

Tracy has her own accounting and tax practice.  She has been working with non-profit organizations, small businesses and individuals with their accounting practices, business operations and tax needs for 20 years.  Before going into business for herself 11 years ago, she formerly worked with Moss Adams, LLP., a large national firm.  She is a Certified QuickBooks Advisor and has been working with the program for more than 18 years.

Sandi Clement McKinley, Vice President of Advisory Services, Nonprofit Finance Fund

Sandi is responsible for leading the delivery team of NFF consultants across the country and ensuring that NFF’s advice and insights are relevant and accessible to foundation and nonprofit clients. Sandi has served in leadership roles for organizations such as the Institute of Contemporary Art, American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Immediately prior to joining NFF she provided strategic and philanthropic advice to major foundations, family offices, corporate foundations and their grantees. Sandi has a passionate interest for nonprofit finance and for helping funders and nonprofits deploy and use capital more effectively. Sandi is faculty member at the Simmons School of Management, active in the nonprofit community, serves on several nonprofit boards and regularly speaks and writes about the role of nonprofit institutions in the community.

Gregory Csikos, CPA, CFE, Assurance Manager at Purdy Powers & Company

Greg is an auditor and business advisor with over seven years of experience helping nonprofit entities, commercial businesses, and governments with their accounting and compliance needs. Greg’s expertise also extends to the design of internal controls, the prevention and detection of fraud, and forensic accounting.

Beth Doreian, Senior Associate, Nonprofit Finance Fund

Beth is a Senior Associate on NFF’s Advisory Services team, based in the Boston office. Beth delivers customized client consultations and workshops, including business model assessments, capitalization planning and financial literacy coaching. With a background in both financial management and lending, Beth has played a leadership role in NFF’s impact investing advising, helping foundations design and implement investment programs that augment their social missions. Prior to NFF, Beth was Director of Finance and Administration at Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development and Controller at Root Capital. At Root Capital, Beth began her tenure during this social investment fund’s start-up phase, and over five years, was intimately involved with scaling the organization’s work and planning for rapid growth. Beth holds an MBA from Simmons College and a BS in Economics and Mathematics from Muhlenberg College.

Hadje Esmiller, CPA, Manager, Macpage

Hadje focuses his accounting and auditing work primarily on nonprofit organizations. He is responsible for the planning and management of client engagements, including monitoring the audit process and reviewing documentation and related deliverables. He is present throughout the fieldwork and ensures all tests are efficiently performed. Hadje has been with Macpage since 2006 and received his CPA certificate in 2009. Hadje develops strong lines of communication with client personnel and identifies and resolves issues efficiently and effectively.

Stefan A. Hershfield, Executive Service Corps

Mr. Hershfield, as an entrepreneur, has experience in start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, and financing as a result of starting businesses and forming a joint venture with a European company. Additional experience includes strategic planning, operations, and administration. As President of The Plastics Pioneers Association, a 501 (c) 3 Corporation that administers a scholarship program, Steve has experienced the ins and outs of working in the non-profit sector.  He holds a BS from Carnegie Institute of Technology and performed post-Graduate Studies in Administration and Marketing from Carnegie Institute of Technology and Marquette University, respectively.  An ESC consultant beginning in 2015, he lives in York Harbor, Maine.

Peter G. Montano, CPA, Director, Macpage

Peter has over 20 years’ experience providing audit, advisory and tax services to nonprofit organizations and venture funds. He is responsible for the planning, control and coordination of audit services, issue identification and resolution, and presentation of the final management letter, financial statements and compliance reports. Peter became a Certified Public Accountant in 1992 and joined Macpage in 1994. Peter speaks regularly on topics affecting nonprofits and gives seminars on financial management. He assists nonprofit management and board members with implementing best practices. His advisory areas of expertise include: Strategic business planning, Financial regulations, Internal control design, Governance, Audit and consulting services related to federal and state compliance, Grant compliance training and program development.

Cathy L. Ramsdell, CPA, CGMA, Executive Director and Casco Baykeeper Pro Tem at Friends of Casco Bay, Nonprofit Financial Consultant

Cathy is the Executive Director of Friends of Casco Bay. She is a certified public accountant, a marine ecologist, and a behavioral biologist. She has served nonprofits and small businesses in a variety of executive, board, scientific, and consulting roles. Prior to joining Friends of Casco Bay in May 2003, Cathy’s consulting practice helped small businesses, nonprofit boards, and chief executives with financial, organizational, and professional development; after the 2008 recession hit, she resumed doing financial consultations for nonprofits. Cathy has also conducted field research, run retail businesses, and worked in public accounting. Cathy is an advisory council member of the Maine Association of Nonprofits, a financial advisor to Maine Initiatives, a member of the Policy Advisory Committee for Maine SeaGrant and Trustee Emeritus of College of the Atlantic.

John Rogers, CISSP, Sage Data Security

John Rogers is the Advisory Services Practice Manager at Sage Data Security of Portland, ME, and an information security professional since 2002.  John has worked with organizations of all sizes and types to create comprehensive and effective cybersecurity programs, manage risk, and train people at all organizational levels about information security.

Richard van Bergen, Executive Service Corps

Mr. van Bergen is a former CFO/Expense Controller for the Operations and Technology Division of Citigroup/CitiBank.  He has also served as Associate Director of International Operations at Reader’s Digest Association, Managing Director of Reader’s Digest in Sweden, and President of Reader’s Digest Japan, and Vice President of Marine Midland Bank. He was an Adjunct Professor in the Finance Department at Babson College.  He is president of and sings with the Choral Art Society in Portland.  Richard was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Germany.  He has lived and worked in Germany, Sweden, the UK, Japan, Thailand and Spain. Richard has an MBA equivalent he earned in Germany. An ESC consultant since 1999, Richard now resides in Scarborough, ME. He served on the town of Winchester Massachusetts Finance and Capital Planning Committees for 5 years.

Christopher D. Van Curan, Executive Service Corps

Mr. Van Curan has 54 years of business experience in banking, insurance, consulting and education.  During his career he has founded four companies (manufacturing, education, insurance and consulting).  Since 2009 he has been an adjunct faculty member at Endicott College’s Van Loan Graduate business school as well as on the faculty of the New England School of Acupuncture teaching the business practice development course.  Chris is a graduate of Middlebury College and has an MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School.  He joined ESC in 1996 and is a prior board member.  Chris lives in Prides Crossing, MA and Norway, ME and is an Army veteran of the Korean War.
