Our Mission: The Maine Conservation School
's mission is to provide affordable, experiential education
in conservation and in the development of outdoor skills, within
a natural setting, for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Vision Statement: "The ultimate purpose of
our educational program is to instill in every individual and
understanding of our dependence on natural resources, to arouse
public conscience concerning them, and to stimulate public determination
that the best conservation practices be followed". Larry Stuart,
Founding Executive Director, 1957.
For
50 years (1956 - 2006), the Maine Conservation School 's summer
and school programs have introduced children and adults from
all corners of the State, to a unique blend of outdoor fun,
environmental education and practical outdoor skills. Learning
to take care of our natural world and ourselves when we are
in it, is our most important goal. Our outdoor programs gather
campers and participants together from all corners of the state,
from Sullivan to Saco, Presque Isle to Portland, offering them
confidence in their ability to enjoy and understand Maine's
outdoor heritage. Nowhere else in Maine do such diverse backgrounds
come together to really celebrate Maine 's outdoor values.
