Laudholm Trust is dedicated to advancing the coastal research, education, and stewardship programs of the Wells Reserve and to preserving its historic buildings.

The Wells Reserve is one of 27 National Estuarine Research Reserve sites throughout the country. All reserves require local funding to match federal grants from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Wells Reserve is the only reserve that receives its match from a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Each year, Laudholm Trust contributes private funds and in-kind services to support Wells Reserve operations and capital improvements.

With the support of Laudholm Trust, the Wells Reserve...

• Investigates coastal food webs, estuarine ecology, and salt marsh restoration,
  
  
• Facilitates watershed councils to address water resource issues across town boundaries,
  
  
• Provides hands-on learning experiences in nature to thousands of children and adults each year,
  
  
• Acts as a mapping and technology service center for southern Maine,
  
  
• Stewards about 2,000 acres of precious habitats from sandy beach to upland fields and forests,
  
  
• Attracts more than 40,000 visitors annually to its historic site.
