Day One is Maine’s premier agency dealing with youth substance abuse, addiction and youth at risk. Founded in 1973, Day One is the largest provider of substance abuse services to youth in the state. Our mission is to dramatically reduce substance abuse among Maine youth and help them live productive, healthy and rewarding lives.

Our programs cover the state. We have staff in both youth centers and we provide case managers for all six Juvenile Drug Treatment Courts. Our Natural Helpers Program, a peer listening and support program for high school students, has been in Maine schools for over 20 years and is currently active in 16 high schools in Maine. Our Outpatient Services based in South Portland offer family and individual counseling, homeless teen outreach, case management for youth, and a 12 week Intensive Outpatient program.

For kids whose drug and alcohol problems need extensive help, we have a one year residential treatment program at the Residential Treatment Center in Hollis. This therapeutic environment gives kids the tools to learn how to live substance free and become independent, active participants of our society. During their stay in Hollis, many kids visit schools and share their stories with other young people to help prevent them from following the same path. After graduating from the year-long program, they are given the option of living in our Transitional House for Recovery in Portland, where they pay affordable rent, get jobs and put to use what they learned in the previous year, while taking part in Aftercare services provided onsite.
